The Charrette

Produced by the Institute for Public Administration (IPA) at the University of Delaware, this video features David Edgell, Kent County Circuit-Rider Planner at the Delaware Office of State Planning Coordination (OSPC). At IPA’s Complete Communities Delaware 2012 Summit, Edgell presented some of the advantages to charrette-style planning. He explained that continuity of lengthy, traditional planning processes can be affected by the turnover in public participation. The NCI Charrette System™ is suggested for use as a design-based, accelerated, collaborative project management system, with compressed timeframe and tight feedback loops, which spans an entire planning period. Edgell describes how a charrette process was used to involve and actively engage stakeholders in a corridor planning project in the Town of Smyrna, Delaware.
